Polyphagus Shot Hole Borer (PSHB)
The tiny yet destructive polyphagous shot-hole borer (PSHB), native to south-east Asia, has been detected in trees in the Perth metropolitan area, including in Kings Park and Hyde Park.
A Quarantine Area Notice (QAN) is in place across the entire Perth metropolitan area (as of September 2024). Local government and the general public are being asked to support the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development’s ongoing surveillance program to determine the spread of the pest.
Visit the agric.wa.gov.au website using the link below to view the quarantine map and for more information about polyphagous shot-hole borer (PSHB), including how to identify and report signs of this pest to minimise the spread.

Queensland Fruit Fly Success for DPIRD
The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPRID) has worked hard to detect and eliminate Queensland fruit fly (Qfly) from Western Australia since detection in Bayswater in February 2023.
After much effort, WA has once again been declared free of this destructive pest, Queensland fruit fly (Qfly) after a successful eradication response in the Bayswater area.
"DPIRD would like to thank community members in the Bayswater area for complying with fruit movement restrictions and working with DPIRD personnel to support baiting and quarantine activities throughout the area and in private backyards" - agric.wa.gov.au
Area freedom was declared on 11 March 2024 and all restrictions have now been lifted.
